Iranian short ‘Mermaid’ to vie at Turkish fest

Iranian short ‘Mermaid’ is to compete at the 2021 Changing Perspective filmfest in Turkey.

Iranian flick ‘Mermaid’ has been selected to compete at the 9th edition of the International Changing Perspectives Short Film Festival in Turkey.

Directed by Saber Mostafapour, the short film narrates the story of a high school boy, named Milad, who is actually a female inside.

S/he drops out to gain his true identity, but some of his/her villain classmates follow him/her and make it rough for him/her.

The cast of the film includes Amir Ahangar, Meisam Vahhabi, Mahla Eslami, Mohammad-Reza Kia, Hamid-Reza Jafari, Ali Solqani, Mehr-Ali Qazvini, and Tahereh Fard.

The flick has previously participated in the 2021 Mediterranean Film Festival Cannes and the 2020 Bordeaux Shorts- International Festival of 1-Minute Films and Short Films, both in France, as well as the 2020 Pink City International Short Film Festival in India.

The Changing Perspectives annually hosts films with a wide range of topics from different countries.

As written on the website of the event, “the International Changing Perspectives Short Film Festival accepts the titles with new perspectives and appreciates discoveries with fresh views. Every year festival deals with global topics and themes such as identity, borders, migration, cultural dialogue, environment, urbanism, dystopia and utopia”.

The 2021 edition of the event is slated for May 25-29.
